Hom\u00e8re d\u00e9crit la d\u00e9esse qui \u00ab&nbsp;a l\u2019\u00e9gide tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9cieuse, imp\u00e9rissable, immortelle et dont les cent franges voltigent au vent, les franges tress\u00e9es, tout en or, dont chacune vaut cent b\u0153ufs.&nbsp;\u00bb <em>Iliade<\/em>, Chant II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zeus poss\u00e8de \u00e9galement l\u2019\u00e9gide. Il est ainsi pr\u00e9cis\u00e9 \u00e0 son propos : \u00ab&nbsp;Le Cronide prend l\u2019\u00e9gide scintillante; il couvre l\u2019Ida de nuages, lance l\u2019\u00e9clair \u00e0 grand fracas, \u00e9branle la montagne et donne aux Troyens la victoire.&nbsp;\u00bb <em>Iliade<\/em>, Chant XVII.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>__________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab&nbsp;Deux traditions, relatives \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9gide, ont tr\u00e8s t\u00f4t coexist\u00e9. La premi\u00e8re, relat\u00e9e par Hom\u00e8re et par H\u00e9siode (Th\u00e9ogonie), fait de l&rsquo;\u00e9gide, ouvrage d&rsquo;H\u00e9pha\u00efstos, l&rsquo;arme de Zeus.<br>L&rsquo;autre, moins r\u00e9pandue, veut qu&rsquo;Ath\u00e9na, jaillissant tout arm\u00e9e du cr\u00e2ne de Zeus, ait port\u00e9 l&rsquo;\u00e9gide que M\u00e9tis aurait en quelque sorte con\u00e7ue in utero&nbsp;\u00bb.
